Canada Caregivers Program

As of June 18, 2019, Canada has introduced two new immigration programs, Home Child Care and Home Support Workers. Canada will provide qualified applicants with a Temporary Work Visa to work in Canada to obtain qualifying work experience. Once in-home caregivers moved in, worked and gained 12 months (one year) of qualifying work experience in Canada, then they may obtain a Canadian Permanent Residency. Main applicants may include their spouse, and dependent children of under 22 years old in their application for Permanent Residency. While the main applicant is working in Canada, the program allows their family members come to Canada and work or study. .

How Canada Caregivers Programs Work?

You have relevant training and work experience that make you qualified to work as a Home Child Care and Home Support Worker in Canada. You also have at least one-year post-secondary education and good knowledge of English. With a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, you and your family may apply for the program. Considering you have all above qualifications, Canada will provide you with a three-year Temporary Work Permit restricted to work in one of two in-home Caregivers categories.

You and your family come to Canada to live and work. After obtaining 12 months of qualifying work experience as in-home Caregiver in Canada, you will be eligible to obtain a Permeant Residency for you, your spouse and your children of under 22 years old. The 12 months qualifying work experience may be obtained within 36 months. After working for 12 months as an in-home Caregiver in Canada, there will be no restrictions on type of work you can do in Canada. Your spouse will receive a Temporary Open Work Permit to work in Canada in any occupation or profession. Your dependent Children of under 22 years old will receive a Work or Study Permit.

Home Child Care and Home Support Workers Program Qualifications

  • Have a job offer from a qualified employer,
  • Have good English knowledge, Canadian Language Benchmark five (CBL=5),
  • Have at least on year post-secondary education,
  • Be able to perform duties
  • Be healthy and pass medical tests, and
  • Have no criminal record.

What is Canadian Language Benchmark (CBL=5)

There are many English proficiency tests; one of the most popular English tests is International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training test. In order to obtain CBL five, you need to obtain equal or above the following scores the following marks from four streams of ILTES General test.

  • Reading: 4.0
  • Writing: 5.0
  • Listening: 5.0
  • Speaking: 5.0

What is Qualifying Work Experience?

After submitting your initial file, Canada will issue you a three-year Temporary Work Permit to work in Canada. This Work Permit is restricted to work in Home Child Care or Home Support Worker. Canada will give you a 36-month Work Permit to allow you to obtain 12 months of work experience. As soon as you obtained 12 months of work experience, you may to obtain Permanent Residency.

What is Home Child Care (NOC: 4411)

Home Child Care providers care for children under the age of 18. They care for the well-being and physical and social development of children, assist parents with child care and may assist with household duties.

What is Home Support Worker (NOC: 4412)

Home support workers provide personal care and companionship for seniors, persons with disabilities and convalescent clients. Care is provided within the client's residence, in which the home support worker may also reside

Note: During the 12 months working as in-home Caregiver, you are not required to live in the same home when providing service. You have option to live in your employer’s home or live in your own residence.
