The Federal skilled worker program is intended for individuals who have the ability to become economically established after arrival. The Government of Canada selects applicants based on their education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French, and other criteria.


Effective June 26, 2010, government of Canada changed the federal skilled workers occupation list. The new list contains 29 occupations, with 12 new jobs added to the list. New regulations impose a cap of 1000 applications per occupation in each 12 months (starting June 26, 2010). A maximum of 20,000 applications will be considered for each 12 months. The application of all qualified applications will be rejected when the cap reached the total number.

Key eligibility criteria
You may make an application in The Federal Skilled Worker Program if you meet one of the following criteria:

Quebec and other provinces have their own programs. Each program has different selection criteria that may match your education, knowledge, experience and skills.
There are many occupations that are in demand, but are not included in the ministerial list. We can help you with arranged employment in selected in-demand occupations.


Work legally for a year in Canada as a Temporary Foreign Worker, and then apply for immigration from inside Canada.
With a permanent job offer in some provinces, you will be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency after nine months of work.

Other eligibility criteria
If you meet one of the above mentioned key eligibility criteria, then you must also meet the following four selection criteria:

  • You must have at least one year of continuous full-time paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment within the last 10 years
  • Work experience must be in Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC) list
  • Obtain a minimum of 67 points in the six-factors of the Federal Skilled Worker selection grid.
  • Medical and security requirements. Applicants and their family members must pass a medical examination and security and criminal checks.


Quebec and Provincial Nomination Programs
Quebec and other provinces have their own Skilled Worker Programs. Selection criteria for each province are defined based on the demand for skilled workers in each province. Each province maintains a different list of occupations in demand.
